How do I find out if I have a pension from City of Oakland, California? I worked for the City of Oakland for 3 years in 1963 to 1965.

Call them and ask although I'd bet my pension on the fact that you don't have one. You never worked long enough or paid into the pension plan long enough to qualify for any sort of payout. You may have been able to get some sort of return of contributions way back then but not now.

I'd say it is highly unlikely you are owed anything from the City Pension. In general, pension plan vesting since 1987 has required at least 5 years of service. Prior to 1976, most plans required much longer to get a benefit. Also, minimum age requirements were commonplace prior to 1976 and age 30 was used as eligibility date for many plans. So if you worked there in your 20's you may not have ever even been offered entry into the plan. In a CA public pension plan, you generally are required to contribute your own money to participate. With such a short length of service they most likely returned your contributions when you left.
