I know for a fact of a 4 star restaurant because my cousin owns it but unfortunately, I don't know you personally so I couldn't refer you. Extra info: I don't ever have clients over to the house, and I only recieve mail (check payments) a few times a year at my address.

No. You may want to get a DBA (Doing Business As) from your local courthouse but you do not need that either. When it comes tax time you will just need to fill out the proper forms for self employment. Even though you will not be a "registered business" you can still enjoy the tax benefits of self employment. You should be fine to do business, as yourself, without an issue. NOTE: I am not a CPA or lawyer. If you are unsure about the laws and regulations in your area you should consult a lawyer.

About oakland police department explorer program? anybody in it, or know anything about it
oakland police department explorer program? anybody in it, or know anything about it?
Has anybody been in it/is in it? Or works in Oakland PD. I've turned in an Application for the Oakland PD and am just wondering what's next to come? I also am dealing with my mom stressing a little about it.. since it is OAKLAND, and the crime rate is high there... she thinks I have to work in OAKLAND PD if I continue to be a Cop when the time comes. Is it possible to be in the Oakland Explorer Program and then try out to be a Sheriff - because doing Sheriff Work is my biggest dream and yeah. PS: There is no Explorer Program in our Sheriff Dept., so I signed up for the closest thing which is Oakland.

If the explorer program is anything like the one I was in, then you can be an officer anywhere you want. OR if your like me, I did it just for fun. I never intended to be an officer. Yes. When you get the easterlies that produce the really hot weather in the area, it is dry enough that an evaporative cooler will work. But I would not use one; they are not enough cheaper than a refrigeration-type cooler to justify putting up with the extra humidity that an evaporative cooler imparts to the air. It does not often get really hot in Oakland, except for a few days in September or October, and a window unit or two will be quite adequate to keep you comfortable.

If, per chance your area experiences pretty solid amounts of humidity, a de-humidifier would help when used along with your AC unit, by allowing you to lower the thermostat some. According to a map I am looking at, the average humidity in Oakland is lowest during Jun - Aug, the hottest part of the year. For best results, a maximum relative humidity at the hottest part of the day of about 70% is best. Unfortunately, average and relative are not the same thing and I don't understand the difference myself. But, in areas where humid days happen from time to time, great relief is often achieved by turning off the water pump (a standard feature of all Breezair coolers) and simply blowing fresh air - moving air always feels cooler than still air. It would seem like it would be ok, gulf states use them some but most of the swamp coolers in use are located throughout the Mid west, and that area is noticeably drier. For a second opinion, have you tried calling some places that sell swamp coolers and asking them this question?

I am not from Oakland but I am assuming it being a coastal city that the humidity will be too high for an evaporator cooler to "cool" adequately. The are best used in dry relatively low humidity climates.

About best place to live when working in Oakland for 50 something woman living alone
best place to live when working in Oakland for 50 something woman living alone?
I am a 49 year old woman who has recently gotten a job in Downtown Oakland. I am white. I am looking for an apartment for around 1000.00 a month. Where is a safe, convenient place to live? I am not afraid to ride BART or drive.

i wouldn't live in oakland. anywhere close to bart like concord, berkeley or pleasanton maybe. i don't know about the renting rates there though.

Rockridge district in Oakland is nice, kind of pricy though. Anywhere in the Oakland Hills is nice too. Also around Piedmont Ave. I would consider Walnut Creek/Concord area. It costs less and there are BART stations near. Maybe check the Orinda area, might be too expensive but its suburbanesqe and close to BART.

He is a military veteran and has had careers in Law Enforcement and other areas and is looking for a temporary place to stay while he gets on his feet. The men's shelters in the area are booked. You could, but you will be in some of the WORST traffic in the bay area. The I-80 is jam packed every morning going south and jam packed every afternoon going north. The closer you get to the bay bridge the worse it gets. Depending on your commute time, it can take an hour or more, each way!

You definitely can, but you'll hate it if you're driving. The traffic back-ups start even before 6 a.m. You can take the ferry though.

yeah, my uncle lived in Vallejo & worked in Oakland. but now, he's dead. REST IN PEACE.

Of course. Just have to worry about traffic. Not much options out in that area to get back and forth. 2 freeways to try but they both are a gamble. Unless you work odd hours. But its nice out there and lots of places to shop and eat. Close to the outlet stores and lakes too for camping. Napa is just east of there.

Yes, take Vellejo transit bus #80 from Vallejo to El Cerrito BART( $4.50) for 30 min ride,the buses go though Car Pool lane, it is not bad. Then BART to Oakland, if you go Civic center or 19th St, the fare is 22 min ride and $2.05

I can graduate next quarter from college if I take all my classes, or should I wait and take the quarter off to do the A's internship and then continue school in the Spring

If the A's internship is a one-time opportunity, take it. Of course, you also have to consider what you want to do when you do finish college.

As Fungo pointed out, if A's internship is once in a life opportunity, I would suggest you to take it. If you let me say "You only live once". Strong possibility I would be regretting for the rest of my life if I were you. How many American (and other) boys dream of being a Major League Baseball player and how many actually make it including "a cup of coffee"? But if it is not "take-it-or-never", you have to think all the possible scenario and effects either way. Once graduated, you have graduated and no more paper or anything you have to worry to finish off. OK, graduated and...? Anything waiting you after? Oh, is there any way you can talk to a A's person if they are happy to wait and delay the start of internship until you finish the college? If so, it seems to me that's the best solution to this dilemma. And one big issue - be honest to your true feeling.
